A “Blue Wave” Can’t Wash Reaction Away

a wave curls around the symbols of the US Democratic Party and Democratic Socialists of America. Newsclips of Democrat midterm victories are in the background, and a monstrous face grins from the water.

A "Blue Wave" Can't Wash Reaction Away

A “Blue Wave” necessitates increasing our agitation and propaganda, and committing to an even more ruthless criticism of politicians, parties, and their programs.

The Democratic Party in recent years has acted in the only way it can, posturing itself as the “progressive” choice in distinction to the reaction coming from the Trumpist Republicans. But victories by “progressive” bourgeois parties serve mainly to pacify the masses, selling the delusion that the current political apparatus is capable of solving their problems and protecting them. It is because of this that, during the reign of Democrats, the work of shoveling the peoples’ heads’ out of the sand, which is the proper work of all Marxists, becomes much more strenuous.

At the same time, reaction is dealt a minor blow within the superstructure, and the fear the right instills within the people is lessened somewhat as the overwhelming power the right attempts to project is revealed to be a farce. This brings positives, but we must never forget that the productive forces build reaction, constantly antagonizing the smaller bourgeois forces — who have the most to gain from reaction and the violent accumulations it sets out to create — sending them into revolt. We go into the parameters of this revolt in more detail in our article, “6 Questions All Marxists Should Know the Answers To.”

Additionally, we must never forget that it is also a farce to think that the electoral process of bourgeois societies is capable of struggling against reaction in a real way. There is no way for the people to struggle against reaction except through the struggle for socialism, that is, the struggle against the bourgeois class as a whole, and there is no way to defeat reaction except through the victorious establishment of socialism, that is, the elimination of the bourgeois as a class, and the centralization of production in the hands of the people.

Trump and the Republicans are simply a reflection of the discontent that smaller and petty bourgeois hold, complete with all its reactionary flavorings; the current political apparatus adopting the fascistic revolt bubbling underneath the surface of American society. Their revolt will continue, regenerated by the conditions of capitalist-imperialism, Trump or no. This is a consequence we are unable to avoid due to the current trajectory of capitalist-imperial relations, especially the decline in the global influence of American capitalists.

No “Blue Wave” is capable of sending reaction out to sea.
